The Five Books of Miriam
Mondays from 7:15 to 8:15pm
December 21, 28 and January 4 and 25, ongoing
Every week on Shabbat we read a parsha (chapter) in the Torah. If we study it, often we study commentary written by men but rarely by women. Join Dr. Beth Banks Cohn where we approach the weekly parsha (chapter) purely from a woman’s perspective. Using the book The Five Books of Miriam by Ellen Frankel PhD, we will read the parsha (chapter) of the week and then look at what women commentators say about it. Dr. Frankel gives voices to the voiceless by imagining what women in the parsha and the Torah might say if given the chance. We incorporate other women’s commentary as well.
This class is ongoing but doesn’t build on itself. You are welcome to join at any time. Never studied Torah? Don’t read Hebrew? No problem. This class is great for people of all Jewish background and Hebrew levels.
Please purchase the book The Five Books of Miriam by Ellen Frankel PhD. Want to try it out first before you buy the book? We are happy to share with you during your first session. For more info and an expanded schedule, please contact Beth at email@example.com.
